Nice, France – September 19, 2023 – A recent study conducted by Nice University Hospital has highlighted the strong performance of Vortex Biotech Holdings’ VTX-1 platform for circulating tumour cell (CTC) detection, positioning it as a preferred solution in the evolving field of liquid biopsy. The research aimed to address a critical challenge in clinical practice: the lack of reproducibility across the many available CTC
The study rigorously compared the efficiency of four commercially available CTC platforms – Vortex (VTX-1), ClearCell FX, ISET, and Cellsearch – in detecting and identifying uveal melanoma cells. Using an OMM 2.3 cell line seeded in healthy donor blood, researchers processed samples similarly across all platforms and identified tumor cells using Melan-A immunochemistry.
While recovery rate is a key metric, the study’s findings revealed that the ISET platform had the highest mean overall recovery rate at 39.2%, followed closely by Vortex (VTX-1) at 22.2%. ClearCell FX and CellSearch showed significantly lower recovery rates of 8.9% and 1.1%, respectively.
The researchers emphasised that while recovery rate is paramount, other factors such as purity, user-friendliness, cost-effectiveness, and suitability for various downstream applications (e.g., genetics, drug sensitivity) are equally crucial for a platform’s adoption in routine clinical practice. This comprehensive evaluation positions Vortex’s VTX-1 as a highly promising tool for advancing liquid biopsy applications in oncology.
