London, UK – 2 October 2023 – Vortex Biosciences, a company at the forefront of personalised cancer therapy development, has significantly expanded its presence at The London Cancer Hub’s Innovation Gateway. This move follows the earlier opening of a new laboratory and underscores Vortex’s commitment to leveraging the Hub’s world-leading ecosystem for cancer research and treatment.

Vortex Biosciences is developing a cutting-edge platform that utilises circulating tumour cells (CTCs) to inform therapy development, guide treatment selection, and monitor cancer progression. Their innovative ‘no touch’ microfluidic chip technology efficiently captures CTCs from blood samples, enabling detailed analysis that provides crucial insights into individual patient cancers. The company is actively building a “sample-to-answer” service proposition specifically for biopharma companies, aiming to accelerate the creation of biomarker-driven personalised medicines.

By expanding its footprint, Vortex joins a thriving community of innovative companies at the Innovation Gateway, including Vesynta (personalised cancer therapy dosing), Curesponse (evaluating drug response), and The Exercise Clinic (physiotherapy for cancer patients). This collaborative environment, situated alongside world-renowned institutions like The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, fosters a unique synergy between research, clinical practice, and commercial enterprise.

Jon Wilkinson, Director of Business and Innovation at the ICR, expressed his pleasure at Vortex’s increased presence, highlighting the potential for major innovations in cancer research and treatment through collaboration within the Hub. Paul Jones, CEO of Vortex Biosciences, echoed this sentiment, stating that the decision to establish their CTC Centre of Excellence at the London Cancer Hub and subsequently expand their lab footprint reinforces their dedication to this world-leading ecosystem. He believes the access to talent and connection to research and clinical systems will accelerate the translation of their technology into everyday clinical practice.

The London Cancer Hub continues to solidify its position as a global leader in cancer innovation, with the Innovation Gateway now at full capacity, reflecting the growing demand for its state-of-the-art facilities and collaborative environment.
