London, UK – April 25, 2019 – EMV Capital (EMVC) today announced the acquisition of a controlling stake in Vortex Biosciences, a Bay Area-based company revolutionising liquid biopsy with its advanced circulating tumour cell (CTC) capture technology. This investment, accompanied by further funding, is set to accelerate Vortex’s development and expand its capabilities in the rapidly growing liquid biopsy market.
Vortex’s fully automated VTX-1 instrument provides highly purified, intact CTCs from a standard 8ml blood tube in approximately one hour. These live cells are then available for diverse downstream analyses, including fluorescence, genomics, cell culture, PDOX, and single-cell analysis. Robert Englert, CEO of Vortex Biosciences, stated the new funding will expand downstream integration, improving cancer detection and therapy. Dr. Ilian Iliev, EMVC MD, highlighted Vortex’s pivotal role in the liquid biopsy market, projected to reach $8 billion by 2023, affirming EMVC’s commitment to supporting Vortex’s growth in North American and European markets and enhancing platform functionalities.
